Student Transformations

It’s always great to hear how taking up martial arts has been a real benefit to someone.

We’ve been in the business long enough to know first-hand how it can improve many areas of your life, so it makes us extremely happy when a student tells us about their own success story.

Tru joined TMA in January 2019 and the transformation over the past 11 months is staggering!

So, we caught up with Tru to ask her a few questions.

The difference in your before and after picture is amazing. How much weight have you lost?

I started at 143lbs and I’m now 105lbs – 107lbs so around 35lbs or 13kg or 2 stone.

What made you get into martial arts?

When I was 5 years old, I came home from school and told mum I wanted to do judo.

My father was in the RAF at the time, so it meant we moved a lot. I was told when we stop moving house she will find me a club. Finally, when I was 11, I started going to karate and I loved it. I trained until I was an adult and I went to the world championships and had my second Dan.

Due to injury I stopped for a long time. I then found a kung fu class, but again I moved for work. In January I was sick and tired of being injured and overweight and I found TMA.

It was close and had classes multiple times each week.

Apart from the weight loss, what other benefits have you seen?

I stopped because of an injury and moving a lot. I am stronger and healthier and I am happier with my body. I have worked hard for this and I am going to keep it. I have better muscle definition and flexibility and because I am using energy I am sleeping better at night.

I have always been able to defend myself but I am now more confident. For my job, I deliver food for Asda across Wiltshire and so I work up until 11pm. As safe as Wiltshire is, it’s nice to have fresh knowledge to be able to defend myself, should I ever need to.

What would you say to other women considering taking up an activity to get in shape?

Martial arts isn’t just for men and you won’t get hit or punched! It is friendly, like-minded people who enjoy learning the skills to defend themselves, gain better health and get fitter, so why not come and give it go, you’ll be surprised!

What do you enjoy most about martial arts at TMA?

TMA is a very friendly and accepting diverse group of people.

We all have various reasons for starting but the people make it so easy to keep coming back. The class is broken into segments and you are able to practice with someone on your level, so for those that do not have great fitness you do not have to, to start.

You will be given plenty of chance to catch your breath and you push yourself as far as you can or want to. Before you know it, you will improve naturally.

As well as teaching you how to properly and efficiently protect yourself, we’ll also get you in shape and we guarantee you will leave each class feeling confident and more prepared than ever to handle any situation life throws your way!

Our students cover a wide age range and our lively adult programme includes; Kickboxing, Jeet Kune Do and Kali/Filipino martial arts.
