There’s a saying in martial arts, a black belt is simply a white belt that didn’t quit.

And it’s very true.

Like many things in life, there’s no secret to achieving your belts and making progress in martial arts. It just comes down to one thing, consistency.

Over the years, we’ve seen hundreds, if not thousands of students. All of them with a different body size, shape, and level of fitness, but all of them with the motivation and drive to make some changes in their lives.

Naturally, as with many new ventures, hobbies, or pursuits in fitness, some last, some don’t.

And it all comes down to consistency. Consistently showing up, consistently putting the effort in, and consistently seeing progress towards your goals.

Bruce Lee once said, “Long-term consistency trumps short-term intensity.”.

Don’t get me wrong, there will still be times when motivation levels drop, and the drive fades a little. This is normal. But those that continue to show up, eventually make it to their black belt.

That said, the ‘prize’ isn’t just achieving your black belt. Along the way you’ll experience many other wins and positive effects.

  • Your fitness will improve dramatically. We have countless case studies and testimonials from students who exceeded all expectations with improvements to their fitness levels. Many of which had already tried other avenues to keeping fit, like the gym, spinning classes, Zumba and alike.
  • As you get fitter, you’ll find you also get stronger, quicker, and more agile. You’ll start to feel more confident, and more accomplished to be able to take care of yourself.
  • Your drive will be fuelled by regular belt promotion opportunities. If you come to class regularly, we ask for a minimum of twice per week, you’ll regularly be put forward to grade for your next belt. This is like a whole series of mini wins as you make your way through the 10 belts.
  • You’ll enjoy your training! One of the most-important aspects of any training, is that you enjoy it. As our classes are filled with other like-minded students, you’ll fit right in. Over time they’ll become like classmates, people you enjoy seeing every week and who make your journey that much more enjoyable.
  • Practice makes perfect. Ask any of our students, and they’ll tell you they felt like a fish out of water when they first started. However, as the weeks and months pass, they soon found themselves able to perform techniques and drills they never thought possible at the start. And that’s a real confidence boost.

So, whilst consistency is the main reason you’ll succeed, the environment of a good martial arts school, like ours, can help you be more consistent.

Which, ultimately, is the one thing that will help you achieve your goals.
