Develop a stronger mind, body and spirit through martial arts

Developed in the late 60’s by Bruce Lee, JKD combines the core concepts of Wing Chun with the best ideas from styles such as Tae Kwon Do, Muay Thai, Karate and Jiu Jitsu with aspects of boxing and fencing. Referred to as a “style without style” the art aims to fulfil key concepts such as economy of motion, efficiency, simplicity and directness by utilising the four ranges of combat: kicking, punching, trapping and grappling. The term Jeet Kune Do translates literally as “the way of the intercepting fist” meaning that an attack from an opponent would be used against himself.

The art draws on the idea of centreline control where punches are executed with vertical fists with trapping and forward pressure. The fundamental concept of JKD is to intercept the opponent’s hand or leg before it reaches it’s intended target, when it is relatively weak. The training is geared towards using simple techniques to focus the power of the entire body into a single point for release. At TMA you will learn a core foundation of techniques that serve as powerful attacking and defensive methods.

Sifu Tony Child has over 20 years experience with some of the most respected JKD instructors in the world such as Dan Inosanto, Bob Breen and David Onuma. He is proud to be delivering Bruce Lee’s combat system and philosophy to his students.

Mr Child continues to study under Laurence Sandum, founder of the Uk Martial Arts and Self Defence Association who himself is a student of Dan Inosanto.
